When he told him so, Billy was instantly enraged at him for believing that any person is purely good and without flaws. The Wizard searched the boy's soul and saw that he was not perfectly good. The train transformed into a gateway to the Rock of Eternity, where Billy met the Wizard. Billy was caught and escaped on an underground train at the metro station. That night, he snuck out of the house and was followed by Freddy, and the boys decided to hijack the bullies' father's car. 6/30/2023 0 Comments The dark tower iii the waste landsThe Dark Tower Series continues to show Stephen King as a master of his craft. There are new evils…new dangers to threaten Roland’s little band in the devastated city of Lud and the surrounding wastelands, as well as horrific confrontations with Blaine the Mono, the piratical Gasher, and the frightening Tick-Tock Man. Roland, Susannah, and Eddie must draw Jake into Mid-World and then follow the Path of the Beam all the way to the Dark Tower. Now Roland and Jake exist in different worlds, but they are joined by the same madness: the paradox of double memories. But Roland altered ka by saving the life of Jake Chambers, a boy who-in Roland’s world-has already died. Eddie Dean has given up heroin, and Odetta’s two selves have joined, becoming the stronger and more balanced personality of Susannah Dean. Several months have passed since The Drawing of the Three, and in The Waste Lands, Roland’s two new tet-mates have become trained gunslingers. The third volume in the #1 nationally bestselling Dark Tower Series, involving the enigmatic Roland (the last gunfighter) and his ongoing quest for the Dark Tower, is “Stephen King at his best” ( School Library Journal). She is exposed to an assault of apparently disconnected fragments, punctuated with drawings imitating those of a child, with isolated, proverb-like or just mysteriously allusive phrases, and with paragraphs written in an almost unidentifiable language, in a challenge to her both analytic and synthetic abilities. The shock experienced by the reader is due to the topic of the book - torture - as well as to the violence of form. The Exposed ReaderĢReading The Water Cure is most uncomfortable. The dynamic relationship between the two notions of exposure and overexposure will help me show how Everett plays on representation in order to interrogate - in keeping with the central topic of this novel on torture - the relations between reality and language, in a book of an innovative genre, which calls for the invention of new reading modes. 1 The Water Cure (2007), Percival Everett’s latest published novel, is a complex and disturbing work yet the twin notions of exposure and overexposure, as applied to the analysis of the manipulation and dismantlement of words, and to the game of hide-and-seek carried out with the reader, provide openings into this all but daunting book, by shedding light upon the reading experience it offers, as an evolving process of discovery, depending on the specific structures of the book as well as on the minute work to which language is submitted. 6/30/2023 0 Comments The stranger by albert camusHe is content to, more or less, just exist. And what does her death have to do with his life? To Meursault, life is not all that important he doesn't ask too much of life, and death is even less important. He lives, he doesn't think too much about his day-to-day living, and now his mother is dead. This admission of a son's unconcern about his mother's death is the key to Meursault's simple, uneventful life as a shipping clerk. Or, maybe, yesterday I can't be sure." The impact of this indifference is shocking, yet it is a brilliant way for Camus to begin the novel. The novel opens with two of the most quoted sentences in existential literature: "Mother died today. Camus juxtaposes two worlds: Part One focuses on subjective reality Part Two, on a more objective, faceted reality. Part One is full of mostly insignificant days in the life of Meursault, an insignificant man, until he commits a murder Part Two is an attempt, in a courtroom, to judge not only Meursault's crime but also to judge his life. In Part Two, covering about a year, we are present at a trial that recreates those same eighteen days from various characters' memories and points of view. In Part One, covering eighteen days, we witness a funeral, a love affair, and a murder. The Stranger is a very short novel, divided into two parts. 6/30/2023 0 Comments The bear snores on bookBe sure to share the pictures as you read so they can follow along with the story.
